MULLAITTIVU: AN LTTE explosive-laden lorry inside the No Fire Zone (NFZ) trying to ram on to the troops in the opposite direction, close to south of VALAYANMADAM was completely blown up by troop fire Tuesday (28) early morning, minutes after the troops completed the capture of another 700 m long earth-bund built by Tigers across REKTAVAIKKAL area in the NFZ.
Troops continuing their rescue missions after capturing the LTTE earth-bund that had been erected across to prevent the onward march of the troops collected dead bodies of seven Tigers, one multi purpose machine gun (MPMG), three I-com sets, ammunition rounds and many other LTTE items.
Soon after the capture, Tiger terrorists, unable to resist troop-fire drove off a lorry packed with explosives towards the defences of the troops at high speed. However, troops realizing the motive behind this attempt directed fire onto the speeding vehicle, causing it to explode with huge palls of fire and smoke.
The lorry filled with C-4 explosives was reduced to ashes after it caught fire following shooting done by the troops.
