LTTE men, regardless of provisions of the cease-fire (CFA) agreement on Sunday (8) abducted an undergraduate student of the UNIVERSITY OF SRI JAYAWARDENEPURA, NUGEGODA while he was in NALLUR KACHCHERI area, JAFFNA after he was bundled into a three-wheeler.
The undergraduate, SENDILKUMARAN RAMACHANDRAN (27) was there for a holiday with his parents when he was bundled into the three-wheeler (WPHC 0826) at about 12.15 p.m. by four LTTE men and forcibly taken to the LTTE office at VAIMAN Rd, NALLUR while a section of the public on the road looked on.
LTTE men have reportedly threatened his parents with death when his fear-stricken parents approached the LTTE to inquire into their son's whereabouts after abduction.
His father, V. RAMACHANDRAN, a resident in COLOMBO 6, has finally approached the JAFFNA Police but kept away from lodging a formal complaint for fear of possible LTTE reprisals.
However, he has made a formal complaint to the Sri Lanka Monitoring Mission (SLMM) in JAFFNA
By this act the LTTE has acted contrary to the preamble of the CFA where parties have agreed to “ refrain from conduct that undermine the good intention or violate the spirit of the CFA'' and violated Article 2.1 of CFA wherein the LTTE has agreed to “abstain from hostile acts against the civilian population, including such acts as torture, intimidation, abduction, extortion and harassment.â€
Troops after the public conveyed information to them took necessary steps to keep the SLMM informed of the criminal act.
All attempts to trace his whereabouts have so far proved futile at the time this report was pasted, Monday (9) afternoon.
