Logisticians at ASL Provided with Much-Needed Residential Facilities

The Trincomalee-based Army School of Logistics (ASL) that fulfills much-needed administrative functions of the country’s biggest work force and grooms logisticians with best and most appealing practices of logistics planning and management laid a red carpet welcome to General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army this morning (27) when he was invited there to open the new storeyed accommodation complex, ‘Clappen View’ for ASL trainees in the school compound.

A formal drive-past military honour, Guard Turnout saluted the day’s Chief Guest as he entered the premises before he was warmly received by the Brigadier Ranjan Jayasekara, Commandant, ASL where he was at first invited to leave memories by planting a sapling in the compound before moving out to attend the day's main agenda.

As the auspicious minute struck, the day’s Chief Guest amidst chanting of ‘Seth Pirith’ unveiled the plaque that sums up the story behind its erection, cut a ribbon and went into the complex where a room model of the building was on display. The Army's technically-skilled Corps of Engineer Services (CES) troops with Army funds erected the whole storeyed complex of 20 rooms in record time showcasing their technical and engineering professionalism of high standards.

General Shavendra Silva after closely watching the interior of the upper floor of the new building made it a point to inspect some of the rooms, meant for the trainees along with the ASL Commandant and other accompanying Officers. The Army School of Logistics conducts three main courses, namely the Logistics Staff Course, the Junior Officers’ Logistics Course and the Senior Non Commissioned Officers’ Logistics Course.

Major General Channa Weerasuriya, Commander, Security Forces - East, Major General Priyanka Fernando, Director General General Staff, Army Headquarters, Major General Mahesh Abeyratne, Commander, Forward Maintenance Area - East and few Senior Officers also joined the inaugural opening at the ASL where health guidelines were strictly followed.
