Library Books &;amp; Cupboards Donated to Vayavilan Central College

The Colombo-based private insurance company, AVIVA Insurance recently made a valuable donation to Jaffna Vayavilan Central College library.

Seven steel cupboards and a stock of books, worth about Rs. 200,000/= were handed over to Mr. K. Kanagarajah, the principal by Mr. Rukmal Bandaranayake, AVIVA Insurance Company’s Human Recourses Manager.

Jaffna Vayavilan Central College remained a terrorist stronghold before it was liberated by the Sri Lanka Army in 1991. Since then it had been in the Palaly restricted zone until it was released to educational authorities on completion of de-mining in 2010.

Soldiers serving Security Forces-Jaffna (SF-J) contributed their labour to clear the land, renovate the buildings and reconstruct the college playground after it was handed over to Jaffna educational authorities.

Friday’s function was attended by Army officers, students, teachers and parents. The Armoured Brigade of the SF-J coordinated the donation.
