Lebanon-based Troops & 53 Div Troops Hold Separate Vesak Programmes

Troops of the 53 Division on account of Vesak conducted a display of Vesak lanterns and decorations, with active support of all the Brigades and the Units under the guidance of its GOC at the Divisional Headquarters premises during May 21 -28. Winners of the lantern competition received prizes and certificates from the GOC – 53 Division.

In the meantime, troops of the 61 Division under the guidance of the GOC – 61 Division organized a display of lanterns and other colourful decorations to commemorate the annual Vesak day. GOC-61 Division gave away prizes to the winners in the lanterns competition after selecting the best ones.     

Troops in Lebanon-based Sri Lankan peacekeeping missions (United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon - UNIFL) also added their creative skills and put up a Vesak zone, including the display of Vesak lanterns  and free eating and drinking place (Beli Mal and Kadala Dansela) at the  Sri Lankan Battalion Headquarters premises on Vesak Day (21). 

The Vesak zone was formally opened by the Commanding Officer of the 10th Sri Lankan Battalion in Lebanon after observing a Bodhi Pooja Pinkama with the participation of Officers and Other ranks serving the Battalion. All the participants were served with Beli Mal and Kadala.

The same progarmme continued the following day (22) after offering a Buddha Pooja in the morning. A gathering of large crowd, including military and civilian staff participated in the events.
