Late Maj General Vijaya Wimalarathne, Founding Father of GR Remembered

A group of Senior Officers of the Gajaba Regiment (GR) including Major General Mohan Rathnayaka, General Officer Commanding 21 Division and GR Centre Commandant Brigadier Dinesh Udugama, accompanied by a few Staff Officers of the Regimental Centre and the Regimental Sergeant Major laid floral wreaths at late Major General Vijaya Wimalarathne's statue at the Regimental Centre in Saliyapura and commemorated his 29th death anniversary that falls on Sunday (8).

Together with late Colonel Y. M Palipana who also made the supreme sacrifice with others at Araly point, all were remebered at the GR event.

As per guidelines given by the Colonel of the Regiment of Gajaba Regiment and Special Forces Regiment, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, General Shavendra Silva, one more commemoration at the military icon's hometown at Kiribathgoda got underway with the participation of 12 GR troops. Laying of floral wreaths and a salute to Major General Vijaya Wimalarathne's statue followed at Kiribathgoda where Brigadier Lal Wijetunga, Director, Directorate of Movement, Brigadier Jude Perera-Director Management and Maintenance at Army Hospital and Major R. Makawita, Commanding Officer 12 GR joined offering tributes.
