The final remainder of the first contingent of the Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) troops of 34 Officers and 344 Other Ranks who were deployed in Haiti on UN peace-keeping missions returned to the island this morning at 7.13 a.m. (17 May 2005) on successful completion of their assignment.
Troops that marched to the arrival terminal amidst rhythms of the Army Band carrying UN flag, National flag and SLLI Regimental flag at the front of their march were received by Major General Nanda Mallawaarachchi, Director General, General Staff and Colonel of the SLLI Regiment, joined by many other Senior Army Officers.
A huge gathering of their relatives and well-wishers awaited there to receive their beloved ones.
