Kovil Renovated at Kurukkal’s Request

Sri Muttumari Amman Kovil at Illuppaikulam, Uyitharasakulam, close to the 542 Brigade Headquarters in Manthottam, Mannar received a facelift and a complete renovation thanks to the efforts of the 542 Brigade troops after its ramshackle condition was brought to the 542 Brigade’s notice by the trustee clergy.

The said Kovil, venerated by devotees in the surroundings remained covered with a few tin sheets. The trustee Kurukkal, together with a group of devotees met the 542 Brigade Commander, Brigader N.P Akuranthilaka and sought his assistance to renovate it to be suitable for offerings.

Accordingly, All Ranks of the 542 Brigade joined together and put up a new structure and painted it completely before it was vested with the Kovil trustee. The clergy afterwards conducted the traditional ‘Vaihasi Pongal’ ritual and conducted a special day Pooja, in which alms were distributed particularly among the troops who rebuilt and renovated the sacred Kovil. The recent re-opening ceremony was attended by the 542 Brigade Commander and a group of All Rankers.
