A combined sponsorship provided to the Security Force HQ - Mullaitivu by a group of philanthropists and donors from Colombo enabled the supply of five drinking water storage tanks and a large stock of books and school accessories to the ‘Vishwa Bauddhaloka’ Sunday school students and ‘Singith Divihuru’ pre school kids at Kokilai ‘Sri Sambodhi Viharaya’ on Esala Full Moon Poya day (03 July).
Major General M.K Jayawardena RSP VSV USP ndu, Commander, Security Forces-Mullaitivu responding to a request of the Chief Incumbent, Ven. Sri Tissapura Gunarathana Thero at ‘Sri Sambodhi’ Viharaya initiated the much-needed water facility project for students attending the Sunday school through the coordination of the General Officer Commanding of 59 Infantry Division, Major General R. M. M. Ranasinghe WWV RWP RSP and overlooking Commander, 593 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier S.D.P.C Arrachchige, Commanding Officers of 19 Gemunu Watch (GW) and 5 (Volunteer) Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR).
Mr Prasad Loku Balasuriya and his friends of the ‘Atha Hitha’ Organization of the Colombo Royal College Old Boys’ Association and past graduates at Sri Jayawardenepura University, together with support from overseas Sri Lankans accordingly sponsored the cost of those five water storage tanks, each with a capacity of 2000 liters.
The distribution programme of this community- oriented project was organized and carried out by 19 GW and 5 (V) SLSR troops serving the area.
The occasion was attended by Ven. Sri Tissapura Gunarathana Thero, Major General M.K Jayawardena RSP VSV USP ndu, Commander of the Security Forces-Mullaitivu as the Chief Guest of the event together with Mrs. Shammi Jayawardena, Chairperson, Sri Lanka Engineers Seva Vanitha Branch, Brigadier S.D.P.C Arachchige, the overlooking Commander, 593 Infantry Brigade and Colonel S.N.M.A.V Arambepola RWP, Commander, 591 Infantry Brigade and a host of Senior Officers serving the area attended the event.
