Kokavil TV Transmission Tower is to Resurrect

NEARLY after twenty years, the famous Kokavil TV transmission tower is to be re-established covering the entire northern and Wanni regions, authorities told the www.army.lk

With the support received from the Army, Engineers in the Sri Lanka Rupavahini Corporation has organized the inaugural work to begin shortly. The new tower of 172 meters high and equipped to beam to an area of 75 km radius is prepared to serve the most modern technological needs that match with those at international level. Spectators in the entire Jaffna peninsula, Mannar area and Welioya area to the East are to receive benefit from the new tower.         
   
On 11th July 1990 Tiger terrorists attacked destroyed this transmission tower mercilessly. The soldiers, attached to the Army detachment providing security to the tower, led by Lt S.U. Aladeniya fought to the last without surrendering to the enemy showing the true spirit of Sri Lanka Army to the world, for which this brave Officer won the award for highest act of bravery and heroism “Parama Weera Vibhushana (PWV)”.  

The completion of the construction would facilitate a full clear view of the transmission.
