In order to alleviate hardships, faced by civilians due to COVID-19 pandemic and travel restriction imposed, a distribution of dry rations and essential items was conducted among the needy families living in the 653 Brigade area on 23 June 2021 at the Kirisuddan school. The program was conducted under the guidance and presence of the Commander, Security Forces- Wanni Major General Hemantha Bandara and the General Officer Commanding of the 65 Division Major General Tikiri Dissanayaka.
The donation programme was sponsored by “The Second Coffee International”, an overseas charity for the welfare of the needy people in Sri Lanka, whose members consist of professionals from all over the world. The 24th Battalion the Gajaba Regiment also contributed in donating ration packs to make the event successful. The event coordinated with the assistance of the 24 Battalion Gajaba Regiment under the direct supervision of the Commander 653 of the Brigade, Brigadier Sudantha Fonseka.
Beneficiaries selected from the general area of Kirisuddan received those packs. The event was conducted adhering to Covid - 19 health guidelines.
