Kilinochchi Troops Launch Multiple Income Generating Projects for Needy Families

To be in line with the ongoing Thuru Mithuru Nawa Ratak' green drive, conceptualized by General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, the Security Force HQ- Kilinochchi with its Divisions and Brigades launched several projects in order to assist improve living standards of poor families in Kilinochchi area.

To fulfill aforesaid vital needs of the general public, Brigades under the SFHQ- Kilinochchi launched projects to encourage income-generating practices in fields such as agriculture, fishery, bee-keeping, etc. Troops of the 7 Sri Lanka Light Infantry distributed 30 turkey berry plants (Thibbotu) for selected 15 low-income families and 800 winged bean plants for 30 needy families while troops of 9 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment distributed 750 Turkey Berry plants (30 plants for each family) for selected 25 low-income families in Karachchi DS area and Oddusudan DS area.

Moreover, 9 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment distributed 50 g of water melon seeds for selected 15 low income families in the same areas.

7 Sri Lanka Light Infantry Regiment meanwhile released a shoal of fingerlings into Dryarukulam tank in order to support fishing efforts of some 22 families with 77 members since fishing remains the main source of income for them. In the meantime, 6 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment troops also released a large shoal of fingerlings to Vishuwamadu tank bank for the benefit of some 30 families with 110 members in the area.

All of these projects were carried out on the direction of Major General Harendra Ranasingha, Commander Security Forces - Kilinochchi under the supervision of Major General Priyantha Jayawardena, General Officer Commanding, 57 Division and Brigade Commanders of 571, 572 & 573 Brigades, together with respective Commanding officers of respective formations.
