Kilinochchi thru New Green House Encourages Troops for Cultivating with Organic Fertilizer

Giving a boost to the policy of organic farming, on guidance given by Commander Security Forces - Kilinochchi, troops put up a 1000 sq.ft large Green House in order to support the cultivation programme of the government as per technical expertise given by Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers troops of the 66 Division under the Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN).

It was inaugurated on 29 May 2021 by the General Officer Commanding 66 Division, Major General Ajith Dissanayake and prior to its opening, Major General Harendra Ranasinghe, Commander, Security Force-Kilinochchi also visited the new Green House site whilst inspecting the progress of civil affairs projects, being conducted by 24 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment and 5 (V) Mechanized Infantry Regiment troops serving the area.

The cultivation of plants in this Greenhouse will provide a greater reflection of the Army’s contribution on current agriculture trends and projects in the country. Through this project, use of organic pesticides and carbonic manure for plantation of agro-crops in Army camp perimeters is encouraged while educating troops of under formations on the greenhouse concept.

As the second step, 66 Division will shortly distribute Argo-plants among selected low-income families in the Division Area of Responsibility.

The guidance of Major General Ajith Dissanayake, General Officer Commanding, 66 Division, enabled the Green house concept to be a reality in the dry zone climatic conditions.
