With the objective of promoting reconciliation and co-existence, the Security Force Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) arranged a New Year festival at Mulankavil public ground on Sunday (17), giving pride of place to traditional Sinhala and Tamil folk games and other fun-making events.
Brigadier Sarath Weerawardene, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 65 Division, took the initiative in organizing the event at the venue.
Many traditional and fun-making games and events, including pot cracking, pillow fighting, tug of war, cycle races, cadjan-weaving, grease pole climbing, fancy dress and selection of the New Year princess dominated the flow of the programme.
Major General Amal Karunasekara, Commander, Security Forces - KLN attended the event as the Chief Guest.
Meanwhile, Major General Amal Karunasekara on account of the New Year visited soldiers under treatment at Kilinochchi Army Base Hospital.
The Officer Commanding at the Army Base Hospital greeted the Kilinochchi Commander before he was taken round the wards in the hospital. During his stay there, Major General Karunasekara distributed gift parcels among them and wished them speedy recovery.
Afterwards, he called at the 1 Special Force Regiment and 2 Commando Regiment serving under his command and shared a couple of views with them.
