Kilinochchi & East-based Troops Educated on AIDS & Sexually-Transmitted Diseases (STDs)

Troops of the Security Force Headquarters – East (SFHQ-E) as well as troops serving the Security Force Headquarters- Kilinochchi (SFHQ-KLN) recently received a comprehensive knowledge on spread of STDs, HIV and AIDS during two separate workshops conducted under the patronage of John Keels Charity Foundation in their respective Headquarters.

In response to a request made by Major General Ajith Kariyakarawana, Commander, Security Force - Kilinochchi (SF-KLN), a team of representatives of the said Foundation held two separate lecture sessions at ‘Nelumpiyasa’ auditorium in Kilinochchi and educated troops on ‘HIV and AIDS’ and its nature of transmission.

The first session was devoted to the troops in the SFHQ-KLN and its affiliated battalions, Forward Maintenance Area - Kilinochchi and the 66 Division. 30 Officers and 1000 Other Ranks of those formations during the morning session learnt about those STDs. 30 Officers and 1000 Other Ranks of the 57 Division and the 65 Division took part in afternoon session.

Appreciative tokens were also presented to the representatives of John Keels Charity Foundation by the Kilinochchi Commander before they took leave of the troops.

Meanwhile, a similar awareness programme on ‘HIV & AIDS’ under the theme, ‘Prevention through Education and Access to Correct Information' was held by the same resource personnel at the Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ-E) on Friday (5).

In response to a request made by the Commander, Security Forces - East (SF-E), Major General Santhusitha Pananwala, Mr. Ivan Perera, Master Guide Trainer on HIV & AIDS of the John Keels group delivered lectures in this regard.

More than 350 troops serving the SFHQ-E listened to those lectures and at the end Major General Pananwala appreciated their contribution by presenting appreciative tokens to the trainers.
