A friendly cricket tournament between Kilinochchi combined team of school cricketers and a visiting team from Melbourne school in Australia took place on Tuesday (2) at Kilinochchi Madya Maha Vidyalaya grounds amidst a large gathering of cricket fans.
Kilinochchi combined team, selected from the recent Murali Cricket Cup tournament during these 20 over one-day tussle beat the Australian visitors at 110 runs against their own 175 runs.
The match was organized under the guidance of Major General Udaya Perera, Commander, Security Forces Headquarters - Kilinochchi (SFHQ - KLN) with the aim of promoting cricket skills among budding players in the area.
A.N. Nadeesha, Pe Collin (Best Batsman) and Dames Evan (Australian team) received awards for their best outstanding performances.
During the event, Kilinochchi students received bicycles as gifts, following sponsorship, made by the ‘Guna Jaya Sathuta’ Foundation.
Major General Udaya Perera, Security Force Commander - Kilinochchi, District Secretary Ms. Kethiswaran, Senior officers, special guests from Australia, members of ‘Guna Jaya Sathuta’ Foundation, teachers of the area and students attended the occasion.
