In a momentous display of collective commitment to bolster the security of the Kilinochchi district, top level Army, Police, STF and government officials gathered at the 55 Infantry Division Headquarters on Thursday (9 November) in order to address the recent surge of anti-social and illegal activities in the general area of Kilinochchi, following an initiative taken by the 553 Infantry Brigade.
The first of its kind assembly was initiated by the Commander, 553 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier G.S.K Perera RSP under the guidance of the General Officer Commanding, 55 Infantry Division, Major General R.K.N.C Jayawardena RSP ndc.
The gathering focused on illegal and anti-social activities such as sand mining, production and distribution of moonshine, drug smuggling, thefts, etc which in turn pose a threat to the civil society and community welfare.
The General Officer Commanding highlighted the Division’s responsibility for community development and nation-building tasks. He stressed the imperative need for an integrated mechanism of all government agencies to effectively curb these illegal practices.
This pilot conference marked the first of its kind, aiming to coordinate efforts among security agencies following the 55 Infantry Division’s assumption of authority in the region that aims to deter illegal activities and ensure a prosperous, secure future for the Kilinochchi District and its residents.
