'Keterians' in the Veterans' AGM Appoint New Office-Bearers for the Coming Year

The Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Gajaba Regiment (GR) Veterans' Association got underway on Sunday (26) at Battaramulla ‘Ape Gama’ premises with the participation of a gathering of former 'Keterians' who made the Regiment proud and admiring.

General Kamal Gunarathne (Retd) Secretary to the Ministry of Defence attended the occasion as a distinguished guest, together with the Chief of Defence Staff, General Shavendra Silva and the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage.

The meeting focused on welfare projects that are on for the benefit of veterans and several other relevant issues.

Both Major General M.G.W.W.W.M.C.B Wickramasinghe RWP RSP ndu psc, Adjutant General and Brigadier R.P.A.R.P Rajapaksha RSP, Director, Directorate of Welfare respectively presented separate comprehensive accounts to the meeting on the benefits of the current Death Donation Fund and the 'Suwasahana' Insurance scheme, through which welfare dividends are shared with members of the GR family.

During the sessions, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Army, one of the senior members in the Association donated a financial contribution to the Association to be used towards the welfare needs of GR veterans.

The meeting also appointed a new board of office-bearers, in which Lieutenant General Jagath Dias (Retd) was appointed the new President, Gajaba Regiment Veterans' Association for the coming year.

More than 300 GR veterans, including Senior Retired officers, Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks participated in the AGM.
