An exemplary financial support, extended by undergraduates at the Faculty of Management at University of Kelaniya under their ‘Dayada-Sarasaviyen Guru Gedarata Social Project’ providing their personal donations and resources, enabled 16 Gajaba Regiment troops of the 143 infantry Brigade of the 14 Division under command to the Security Force Headquarters-West to fully refurbish and renovate the neglected library building at Sumedha Vidyalaya, Weleweva, Anamaduwa in the Puttalam district.
Fulfilling this long-felt need for unattended repairs, troops after complete renovation and repairs of the entire building formally vested it in the school administrators and students on Monday (28).
Brigadier Faumie Kitchilan, Commander 143 Infantry Brigade went to the school and formally handed over the keys for the completely-renovated new library.
Upon a request made by school authorities, the renovation work of this library building commenced on 18 November 2022 on the directions of the General Officer Commanding, 14 infantry Division, Major General Roshan Jayamanna under the close supervision of the Commander, 143 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier Faumie Kitchilan and the Commanding Officer of the 16 Battalion Gajaba Regiment after the university students came forward to sponsor the project.
The manpower and technical skills of the 16 Battalion Gajaba Regiment troops and 143 Infantry Brigade troops completed the entire renovation in less than two weeks after the start of the project on 18 November 2022.
The final year undergraduates at the Faculty of Management at University of Kelaniya through the ‘Dayada-Sarasaviyen Guru Gedarata Social Project’ provided financial support and 1000 new books in addition to the renovated library on the day of its re-opening.
Brigadier Faumie Kitchilan, Commander, 143 Infantry Brigade attended as the Chief Guest during the formal vesting ceremony with representatives of those university sponsors.
Divisional Education Director, Anamaduwa, sponsoring final year students of the Faculty of Management at the University of Kelaniya, Major S.A.D.P Jayarathne, Commanding Officer of 16 Battalion Gajaba Regiment, Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks, teachers and students were present during the re-opening of the renovated library.
