The Army's ongoing house construction for needy families in the Jaffna peninsula continues unabated as more and more overseas-based donors, confident of the Army's committed capacity, sincerity and transparency are voluntarily offering their financial sponsorship for the worthy cause.
The 768th new house, erected in Kattudai, Manipay (west) area in Jaffna by skilled troops of the 513 Infantry Brigade of the 51 Infantry Division to be in line with the instructions of the Security Force HQ-Jaffna was vested in the beneficiary, Mr. Fernando Renushan whose family was without a proper shelter. Their miserable plight, noticed by Officers of the Army was intimated to Major General Ravi Ratnasingham (Retd) who has been an ardent supporter of the SFHQ-J's continued house construction project in the recent past.
Accordingly, Mr. Sinnadurai Senthivel family in Ontario, Canada in memory of late Mr & Mrs. Thangamma Sinnadurai of Kattudai and the 'Wanni Aid Canada', together with the Lions Club of Modera/Mattakkuliya offered financial sponsorship for the project through the coordination of Major General Ravi Ratnasingham (Retd).
On Thursday (6 April 2023), Major General Swarna Bothota, Commander, Security Forces -Jaffna at the invitation of the General Officer Commanding (GOC), 51 Infantry Division, Major General Wajira Welagedara as the Chief Guest for the occasion unveiled a plaque and warmed the Army-erected new home for the family in accordance with traditions, rites and rituals. The symbolic receipt of the key took place in the presence of the large gathering of the recipient's relatives, villagers and neighbours.
The Brigade Commander, 513 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier M Rizvi Razick's support and technical assistance provided by 11 Sri Lanka Light Infantry troops under the supervision of the Battalion's Commanding Officer, Lieutenant Colonel K.P.C.K Kariyawasam enabled the troops to complete their 768th house project well in time.
During the brief ceremony, gifts and dry ration packs were also donated to the beneficiary and his family members.
