A score of Jaffna civilians in Katkolam, Point Pedro on the assumption that plans are afoot to move away the 4 Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) Army camp from the location on Monday (14 August) staged a peaceful protest in front of the camp holding placards.
Protesting placards demanded ‘The Army Camp Should not be Removed’ and said; ‘We Condemn the Removal of the Camp’, ‘We will Never Allow Removal of the Army Camp’, etc. The protestors at the same time handed over a request to this effect to the Commanding Officer of the camp at the end of their two-hour long peaceful protest.
Those demonstrating civilians contended that the presence of Army personnel in the area has to-date played an effective role against all types of law-breaking sections in the region, including drug trafficking, illicit sand mining, theft and all anti-social activities and providing the best security network and all emergency assistance to the civilians.
