A religious ceremony in connection with the re-planting of a new Bo sapling at the historic Sri Sambuddha Raja Maha Vihara premises at Kanagarayankulam under Nedunkerni Divisional Secretariat took place on Monday (27), amidst a large gathering of devotees and military personnel.
The old Bodhiya in the temple premises during the peak of LTTE terrorism had a natural death after the premises remained unattended as both resident monks and laity vacated those areas.
The new Bo sapling, sprouted from the most sacred Jaya Sri Maha Bodhiya at Anuradhapura was brought to the venue by the temple’s prelate, Ven Etambagaskada Kalyanatissa Nayaka Thero.
Major General A.K.S. Perera, Commander, Security Forces, Wanni after receipt of the Bo sapling from the Nayaka Thero planted it at the auspicious minute to the tune of Magul Bera and traditional drums.
56 Division General Officer Commanding, Brigadier N.A.P.C. Napagoda, 561 Brigade Commander, Brigadier D.A.R. Ranawaka and several senior officers, civilians and a few monks took part in the ceremony.
