Just Promoted Ten Two-Star Rankers Receive Insignia & Commander’s Congratulations

Ten Senior Brigadiers, just promoted to the rank of two-star Major Generals of the Army this morning (6) had the privilege of receiving their new insignia from none other than their chief, General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army at his office at the Army Headquarters.

Accordingly, Major General Wanditha Mahinkanda of Sri Lanka Artillery, Commander Forward Maintenance Area - North, Major General Nilam Herath of Sri Lanka Electrical and Mechanical Engineers - Commander Forward Maintenance Area - Kilinochchi, Major General Hirosha Wanigasekara of Sri Lanka Army Service Corps - Director General Supply and Transport, Major General Prasad Edirisinhe of Gemunu Watch - Rector of KDU Sooriyawewa Premises, Major General Laksiri Perera of Vijayabhahu Infantry Regiment - Chief Instructor DSCSC, Major General Sujeewa Hettiarachchi of Sri Lanka Light Infantry - Senior Director National Defence College, Major General Lalith Herath of Sri Lanka Signal Corps - Commander - Signal Brigade, Major General Upul Weerakoon of Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment - General Officer Commanding 64 Division, Major General Kalpa Sanjeewa of Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment - Commandant Combat Training School, Ampara and Major General Anil Samarasiri of Commando Regiment - General Officer Commanding 65 Division received their insignia from General Shavendra Silva.

Extending best wishes on their new ranks and wishing them good luck with their future responsibilities, the Army Chief pinned insignia and handed over their respective authoritative command symbolically while congratulating them on their future roles. Most of these Senior Officers are expected to take over new duties within next few days.

HE the President Gotabaya Rajapaksa, Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces on the recommendations of the Ministry of Defence and General Shavendra Silva, Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army promoted these ten Senior Brigadiers to the rank of Major General.
