The 27th Junior Command Course (JCC) Team No 02 on Monday (May 29) clinching the championship of the tournament concluded its second trimester Cricket Tournament, held at the Army War College, Buttala.
Three teams from the Directing Staff (DS), two teams from Senior Command Course (SCC) 08, five teams from JCC 27 and two teams from Junior Staff Course (JSC) 24 played for almost three weeks to reach the finals. The team No 02 of JCC-27 and DS team No 01 qualified for the finals. DS team scored 91 runs for 5 overs losing 2 wickets and the JCC team secured the championship scoring 93 runs for 5 overs losing 2 wickets.
Major V. M Hapuarachchi of the DS team recorded the highest individual score in the tournament scoring 47 runs and Major K.G.G Gunarathne of the DS team was adjudged the Player of the Series with his outstanding all-round performance. Major H.P.M.B.M Palihakkara of the JCC team was awarded the best batsman of the tournament award and Major P.M.S.Y Fernando of the JCC team became the best bowler of the tournament.
The Commandant of the Army War College, Major General YABM Yahampath RWP RSP ndu psc, participated in the event as the Chief Guest and awarded trophies and awards to the achievers along with the Chief Instructor and the members of the permanent staff of the AWC. The after-session of the match included an array of entertaining events, presented by the Student Officers.
