Javelin Throw Athlete's Gains Commended

Warrant Officer 1 B.L Nadeeka Lakmali of Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps, a well-known javelin throw athlete, who brought credit to the organization and the country alike on the eve of her retirement was invited to the office of the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage RWP RSP ndu.

During the cordial meeting, the Army Chief commended her for exceptional achievements she bagged in athletics during her 23 years of service in the Army and also inquired about her future plans and prospects while wishing her good luck for her future endeavours.

Towards the end of the interactions, the Commander of the Army presented a special memento to Warrant Officer 1 B.L Nadeeka Lakmali. Brigadier P.A.M Peiris RSP USP psc, Director Sports was also present during the event.

Warrant Officer 1 B.L Nadeeka Lakmali enlisted in the Army on 25th July 2000. During her tenure, she made exceptional achievements inclusive of 22nd place at Beijing Olympic Games - China 2008, 12th place at Moskva IAAF World Championships, Russia -2013, 6th and 7th places respectively in 2014 and 2010 at Commonwealth Games, 5th, 7th and 8th places respectively in 2014, 2006 and 2010 at Asian Games, 3rd, 3rd and 4th places respectively in 2019, 2015 and 2007 at CISM - World Military Games, 2nd, 4th, 5th, 7th and 9th places respectively in 2011, 2013, 2003, 2005 and 2002 at Asian Championships.

Further, she became the national champion consecutively from 2005 to 2019, champion in the years 2003, 2006, 2007, 2008, 2010, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2018 and 2023 at National Sports Festival and became the champion consecutively from 2007 to 2012 at Defence Services Championships in her event of javelin throw.
