Troops of the 553 Infantry Brigade offering gestures of goodwill and reconciliation under the guidance of Major General Prasanna Gunaratne, General Officer Commanding, 55 Infantry Division and Colonel Janak Premathilaka, Commander, 553 Infantry Brigade. Assisted the commemoration of Maha Shivratri Day during Feb 17-19.
Accordingly, troops serving the 553 Infantry Brigade HQ cleaned Mandalai Pilleyar Kovil and Mulliyan Amman Kovil compounds in Periyapachchapalei prior to the Maha Shivratri Day. In addition, troops participated in the Kovil pooja on Maha Shivratri Day with devotees and joined hands with devotees.
Meanwhile, 10 (V) Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR) troops under the guidance of Major K.H.C Samanpriya, Commanding Officer (CO), 10 (V) VIR, organized a special Kovil Pooja at the ancient Nagathampiran Kovil premises in Nagarkovil in the evening on 18th February 2023. Afterwards, troops also served coffee to the devotees on the following day morning at Sri Murugan Kovil, Nagarkovil showing goodwill.
At the same time, 12 (V) VIR troops on the directions of Major W.T.S Nayanajeewa, CO gave away snacks and tea to the devotees at Veththalaikerni Pulleyar Kovil. Likewise, troops participated in the Pooja, the same evening.
The Kovil Committee members and civilians extended their gratitude to the troops for the support extended to the success of the ceremony in the area.
