Jaffna Troops Support Conduct of 'Thaipongal'

Sri Lanka Army troops serving the Jaffna peninsula shared the sentiments on the importance of Thaipongal day (Jan 15) with the people after offering Pongal milk rice to over 3000 pedestrians around Hindu temples in Jaffna, beginning 10.00 a.m.

The arrangement, organized on the directions of Major General Jagath Alwis, Commander, Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J), began a few days ahead of the festival after the troops volunteered to clean up many Kovil surroundings.

The SFHQ-J had its own Thaipongal ceremony organized with the participation of respective Commanding Officers and Kovil priests to be in line with Hindu rites and rituals.

A large number of officers and other ranks attended the event.
