Jaffna Troops Mark New Year with Civilians


A few Divisions and Brigades of the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J) on account of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year held separate festivals, together with the participation of civilians in respective areas on Thursday (16).

An initiative of the SFHQ-J saw a festival held in Kankasanthurai, dedicated to all soldiers, both male and female serving the SFHQ-J while being away from home during the times of the national festival.

Major General Nandana Udawatta, Commander, SFHQ-J attended the ceremony at Kankasanthurai as the Chief Guest.

Similarly, another festival, organized by the 55 Division Headquarters was held at Kaddeikadu playground with the participation of enthusiastic members of the public. Meanwhile, on the same day all battalions under the 512 Brigade serving the centre of Jaffna got together and marked the national festival with their own New Year festivals.

Traditional games, fun-making events and marathon races, etc were among the main highlights of those New Year festivals held in the peninsula.

Major General Kumudu Perera, General Officer Commanding, 55 Division and several Brigade Commanders, Unit Commanders and senior officers, witnessed those New Year festivals in respective areas.
