Jaffna Troops Get Army-built 698th New Home for One More Deserving Family

Skilled work force of the 1 Mechanized Infantry Regiment and 10 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment in the 553 Brigade under the 55 Division of the Security Force Headquarters - Jaffna (SFHQ-J), following sponsorship provided by a donor, built one more new house for a needy family at Potpathi, Ampan in Jaffna and vested it with them during a brief ceremony on Thursday (21).

This was the 698th home, built by Jaffna Security Forces for the benefit of needy people in the peninsula after culmination of LTTE terrorism in May 2009.

Mr Cashmiar Liyanage, a southerner at the request of Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya, Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna sponsored the purchase of raw materials for construction of the new home after the plight of the desperate family was brought to the notice of the Security Forces in Jaffna.

Under the guidance of the Jaffna Commander, 55 Division General Officer Commanding instructed 553 Brigade troops to undertake the project and complete it within a short period using their technical and engineering skills.

After culmination of the Humanitarian Operations in May 2009, Jaffna troops with sponsorships made available by state authorities and private philanthropists, Jaffna Security Forces directly built 697 houses in the peninsula for needy families in the last ten years. The one at Potpathi is the 698th one, built by troops and vested with another poor family.

Security Forces - Jaffna are scheduled to hand over 02 more such new houses under construction shortly, bringing the total to record 700, built for deserving Jaffna civilians during 2009-2019.

The inaugural warming ceremony of the new house at Potpathi began with the arrival of the Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna, representatives of the donor and the Divisional Secretary for Marathankerni, Mr K. Kanageswaran, together with General Officers Commanding, Brigadier General Staff, SFHQ-J, Brigade Commanders of 551 and 553 Brigades, Senior Officers, relatives of beneficiaries and neighbours.

After a priest performed Catholic religious observances, the Jaffna Commander unveiled a plaque and opened the new home, together with family members. The family with school-going children expressed their deep gratitude to the troops for their timely humanitarian gesture since their lives would be now safer with the new shelter.url clone | Nike Shoes
