Jaffna’s Chankanai-based Mrs Jegadeeshwari Ampikavathy, a woman living in abject poverty with her children was the latest recipient of a new house built by the Security Force HQ-Jaffna under their continuing house-construction project for needy families.
Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya, Commander, Security Forces - Jaffna after harnessing sponsorship of the state and private sector donors offered technical expertise and manpower of 11 Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) and 5 Corps of Engineer Services (CES) troops for the construction.
Mr Kanapathipillai Maheshan, District Secretary for Jaffna, together with the brainchild of the project, Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya in keeping with Hindu traditions warmed the house on Monday (1) morning and delivered the keys of the new house, built adjacent to their existing shelter (see photos) to the beneficiary.
General Officer Commanding, 51 Division, Deputy District Secretary, Assistant District Secretary (Land), Divisional Secretary for Chankanai, Senior Officers and several Officers were associated with the brief ceremony.
