Jaffna Troops & Civilians Mark New Year Day Festival with Traditional Games & Features

The Security Force Headquarters-Jaffna (SFHQ-J), adhering to strict heallth guidelines organized a Sinhala and Tamil New Year festival on Tuesaday (14) in order to promote cultural relations, traditions, goodwill, co-operation and harmony between civilians and soldiers. It was held at the playground inside the SFHQ-J under the guidance of Major General Priyantha Perera, Commander Security Forces - Jaffna.

The officers and soldiers serving under the Security Force Headquarters Jaffna, together with civilians in the area joined hands together to celebrate the auspicious events, giving prominence to traditional New Year games, competitions, cycle races, and other associated events.

The event focused largely on soldiers who stayed away from their families and loved ones due to duty commitments during the festival period. Troops and civilians enthusiastically took part in many events and exhibited cohesion among them. Varieties of valuable prizes were also presented to the winners and participants who joined the events.

“Avurudu Kumaraya” and “Avurudu Kumariya” pageants were held as part of the programme and added extra glamour to the event. Security Forces Commander graced the occasion as the Chief Guest and several senior officers awarded gifts and cash prizes to the winners in different events and competitions.
