Jaffna Security Forces in Appreciative Ceremony Award Gift Parcels to Jaffna Frontline Health Workers

An appreciative ceremony organized by the Security Force Headquarters-Jaffna (SFHQ-J), held on Tuesday (31) at the 512 Brigade HQ premises of the 51 Division hailed the untiring commitment, life-threatening risks and sustained dedication for treatment of COVID-19 patients of health sector frontline workers in the Jaffna peninsula awarding them a stock of essentials as incentives, courtesy the Founder and Chairman of ‘Thiyahie’ Charitable Trust, Mr Vamadeva Thiyagendran, a well-known philanthropist cum donor.

The Commander, Security Forces-Jaffna, Major General Jagath Kodituwakku acknowledging the relentless service of the men and women present, in a symbolic arrangement handed over food vouchers each worth Rs. 5000.00 and Rs 3000.00 respectively for 84 PHIs and 276 Midwives who are serving the Jaffna peninsula.

However, only 16 PHIs and 14 midwives were symbolically invited to the occasion, adhering to health guidelines. These gift vouchers provide them with essential food items that can be bought from Cargill’s Food City at their will.

In parallel with this project, 1000 more dry ration packs, valued at Rs 1 million were also distributed among underprivileged families in selected areas in Jaffna through the coordination of Army troops. As a start of the project, two family members symbolically received their ration packs from the Commander, Security Forces on the same occasion. The financial donation, worth of some Rs 2.2 million for this noble cause came from the Chairman of the ‘Thyahie Charitable Trust’ Mr V Thyagendran who promptly responded once again in unhesitant support to fulfill the request, made by Major General Jagath Kodituwakku.

Speaking briefly at this special appreciative ceremony, Major General Jagath Kodituwakku commended the efforts of health workers and thanked all the PHIs and Midwives present for their hard work and dedication during this critical time. He pledged that the Army under the guidance of its able Army Chief, General Shavendra Silva, Head, National Operation Centre for Prevention of COVID-19 Outbreak (NOCPCO) and Chief of Defence Staff (CDS), will sacrifice all its efforts for the fight against the virus and take all necessary measures to support the people of Jaffna to bring back normalcy to the peninsular as it has always done during the past decade.
