Jaffna Muslims receive gift parcels from SF

In what was seen as a move to foster the growth of goodwill and cooperation among different communities that live for generations in the Jaffna peninsula, the Security Forces (SF) have launched a number of relief and welfare measures that benefit poverty-stricken members of the civil population resident in areas under their control.

This time it was meant for Muslims living in Navanthurai area. Just a couple of days ahead of their holy Ramazan festival, troops picked up 100 families from the village after a careful survey done by troops with the help of the Grama Seva official. They were earmarked for receipt of humanitarian assistance since they should also celebrate their holy event in whatever the degree possible.

A project launched under the auspices of Major General S. D Tennekoon, Commander, Security Forces Headquarters, Jaffna saw that those Muslims receive gift parcels of dry rations on account of their forthcoming holy festival.

During the brief ceremony on Thursday (11), organized by the 51 Division to distribute those dry ration packets, Major General Tennekoon teamed up with the Civil Coordinating Officer for Jaffna and 51 Division General Officer Commanding and went on giving away those gift parcels to the needy Muslims while many a child of those respective families looked on in anxiety and delight.

Troops came in for praise by Muslims because of their thoughtfulness and concerns shown towards their plight.
