Jaffna Glitters with New Year Festival held in Pooneryn

The Sinhala and Tamil New Year Festival Season across the Jaffna Peninsula and 55 Infantry Division made its entry at Pooneryn on 05 April 2024. As per the instruction of Commander Security Forces - Jaffna, and guidance and direction of General Officer Commanding of 55 Infantry Division, the event was organized by the 552 Infantry Brigade in collaboration with Sri Lanka Police - Pooneryn, Divisional Secretariat - Pooneryn and Business Community - Pooneryn.

Tamil civilians enthusiastically participated and joined hands together with military to celebrate the festival, as the festival was organized giving prominence to the traditional New Year games and other associated events.

Major General M.G.W.W.W.M.C.B Wickramasinghe RWP RSP ndu psc, the Commander Security Forces - Jaffna graced the event as the Chief Guest, and inaugurated the evening celebrations. Major General R.K.N.C. Jayawardena RSP ndc, the General Officer Commanding of 55 Infantry Division, Brigade Commanders of 551, 552 and 553 Infantry Brigades along with Officers and Other Ranks, Divisional Secretary of Pooneryn, Rev. Father Nilaan along with a large number of civilians participated in the event.

At the end of the New Year Festival, Jaffna Commander and several other invitees gave away gifts to the winners of different events/competitions. The colourful musical night continued until midnight giving ample opportunity for the participants to enjoy with new vibes of the festival.
