THE Jaffna - Colombo public transportation bus service commenced yesterday with 175 passengers boarding four SLTB buses for the first leg of the journey which is from Jaffna to Medawachchiya.
The Government Information Department, quoting Northern Province Governor Major General G. A. Chandrasiri said the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB) had initially deployed four buses with more buses to be added to the fleet shortly.
A one way ticket costs Rs. 475. According to authorities, additional and alternative transportation services are available from Medawachchiya to Colombo to enhance passenger convenience. Local authorities said plans were afoot to further expand the service to ensure an uninterrupted daily bus service on the Jaffna -Medawachchiya route.
Another group of 200 passengers are set to arrive in Colombo from Jaffna the following day using this newly introduced bus service. (Courtesy: Daily News)
