Jaffna Civilians Enjoy “Dansal” Treat

JAFFNA SECURITY FORCES resorted to the practice of “Amisa” (offering) in connection with the Poson Full Moon Poya Day (June 18) by way of conducting a “Dansala” (free eating house) for civilians in Jaffna peninsula.

Reminiscent of age-old practice of generosity as expounded on Buddhist chronicles after arrival of Arahat Mahinda in Mihintale, Sri Lankan Buddhists were enthusiastically marking the event that usually follows after the thrice-blessed day (Vesak). The “Dansala” is an annual event in Jaffna after Security Forces got control over the peninsula.

Many civilians participated in the “Dansala” where the tables filled with traditional sweet meats and soft drinks awaited them. Ordinary Tamil people en masse enjoyed refreshments served in the “Dansala” held at the Thelippalai Civil Movement Control Centre in Jaffna.

In addition to ordinary civilians, over five hundred passengers arrived in Kankesanthurai from Trincomalee by sea were also entertained to special meal packets prepared by the organizers.

The meritorious campaign has been made a reality by soldiers and officers of the 515 Brigade on the instructions of Commander, Security Forces Headquarters, Jaffna Major General G.A. Chandrasiri.
