In line with the 77th National Independence celebrations, a series of beach and road cleaning programmes were organized across Sri Lanka, under the guidance of the Commander of the Army as part of the “Clean Sri Lanka” initiative.
On 3rd February 2025, troops of the 522 Infantry Brigade, 10th Battalion, Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment (VIR), conducted a beach cleaning programme at Kaddaikadu Beach. The same day, the 23rd Battalion, Gemunu Watch (GW), in collaboration with civilians, organized a cleaning programme at the Palai Railway Station.
These programmes were carried out under the guidance of the General Officer Commander of 52 Infantry Division and the supervision of the Commander of 522 Infantry Brigade and the Commanding Officers of the 10 VIR and 23 GW.
The 243 Infantry Brigade, under the direction of the General Officer Commanding (GOC) of 24 Infantry Division, executed a beach cleaning programme at Kallady Beach on 3rd February 2025. In addition, a road cleaning programme was held along the A-09 Road from Elephant Pass to Ayyakachchi Junction, with participation from 1 MIR, 7 Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps, local schools, and residents.
Earlier, on 2nd February 2025, a beach cleaning programme was conducted at Kandakuliya Beach in the Kalpitiya Provincial Council. Led by the Commander of Security Forces (West) and the GOC 57 Infantry Division, 200 troops from the 143 Infantry Brigade, along with the Commanding Officers of the 16th and 7th (V) Battalions of the Gajaba Regiment, participated in the initiative.
