Troops of the Security Forces Headquarters - Jaffna, together with the 511 Infantry Brigade, took the initiative to arrange a kite-flying festival at Kankesanthurai beach on National Independence Day (04 Feb), under the guidance of Major General M.G.W.W.W.M.C.B Wickramasinghe RWP RSP ndu psc, Commander, Security Forces – Jaffna.
During the festival, troops offered ice cream to the participants. Adding more glamour to the event, a musical show was organized, providing children with the opportunity to showcase their talent in singing and dancing. Senior Officers, Officers, Other Ranks and a large crowd of locals took part in the event.
Meanwhile, troops of 11 Infantry Division gathered on National Independence Day morning. They hoisted the National Flag, recited the national anthem, and observed a two-minute silence in remembrance of the fallen War Heroes. Senior Officers, Officers, and Other Ranks of the Division were present during the occasion.
Meanwhile, Troops of 521 Infantry Brigade together with 11 Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment staged a friendly cricket tournament at the Chidambara College ground on the National Independence Day 04 February 2024.
Accordingly, 14 local teams took part in the tournament and Major General Y.A.B.M. Yahampath RWP RSP ndu psc, General Officer Commanding of 52 Infantry Division graced the occasion as the chief guest.
Senior Officers, Officers, Divisional Secretary of Karaveddi, Doctors in the Valvettithurai Hospital, Principal of Chidambara College, OIC of Valvettithurai Police station, community members and a large crowd of civilians witnessed the cricket tournament.
Meanwhile, in line with the 76th Independence day, troops of 64 Infantry Division under command to Security Forces Headquarters - Wanni (SFHQ-Wanni) distributed 2000 more coconut saplings among 29 selected families resided at Oddusuddan in Mullaitivu.
The project was implemented under the third phase of proposed coconut triangle project in Mullaitivu. Major General M.S Devapriya USP ndc, the General Officer Commanding of the 64 Infantry Division graced the event as the chief guest.
Meanwhile, to coincided with the independence day troops of the 23 Infantry Division conducted the cleaning programme following the direction of the General Officer Commanding of 23 Infantry Division, at Monarathenna Primary School premises in Welikanda, Hingurakgoda hospital premises, Silumina Seya Rajamaha Viharaya, public ground of Vakarai, Maternity Clinic Centre in Sinhapura and Vakarai hospital premises. Troops of 231, 232, and 233 Infantry Brigades, 7 Sri Lanka Artillery, 9 Sri Lanka Artillery, 7 Gemunu Watch, 12 Gemunu Watch and 12 Sri Lanka National Guard extended their valuable contribution to the success of the all charity works.
Meanwhile, General Officer Commanding 24 Division Major General W. Chandrasiri RSP USP psc, graced the Independence Day celebration as Chief Guest together with Brigade Commander of 243 Infantry Brigade, Brigadier K.M.C.S Kumarasinghe.
Federation of Kattankudy Mosques, Islamic institutions in the area organised the event at main street Kattankudy.
In parallel with the 76th Anniversary of the National Independence Day, the troops of the 12 Gemunu Watch (12 GW) organized an event to honour and support the residents of the Elderly Home in Uththalapura, Dehiaththakandiya 05 February 2024.
During the event, troops provided lunch and essential sanitary items to the residents under the direction of the General Officer Commanding, 23 Infantry Division, and the supervision of the Commander, 231 Infantry Brigade.
Recognizing the importance of emotional well-being, the 12 GW troops brought joy and laughter to the elderly through vibrant musical entertainment.

Meanwhile, troops of the 15 Sri Lanka Light Infantry, together with 'Power Boys Media' at Kinniya Surangal Nadautthu Tsunami Village, organized a 76th Independence Day celebration program at Kinniya Tsunami Village with the participation of civilians in the area.
Meanwhile, in line with the 76th Independence Day, troops of 5 (V) Sri Lanka Artillery conducted a tree planting programme at Mahaweli River bund in Sooriyapura GS Division.
On the occasion of the 76th Independence Day, residential War Heroes at the 'Attidiya, Mihudu Seth Madura' wellness resort, together with the staff of the wellness resort, conducted a tree-planting program at the camp premises on 04 February 2024. The required trees were provided by Dehiwala Divisional Secretariat.
