Island-wide Troops Begin to Reap their Paddy Harvest

23rd March enabled troops of the Security Force Headquarters - East (SFHQ - E) who cultivated 10 acres of paddy inside the SFHQ - E compound farm in the 'Maha' season to reap a bountiful harvest during a typical harvesting ceremony, organized near the threshing floor.

The traditional reaping ceremony started at the auspicious minute in the presence of Major General Sujeewa Hettiarachchi, Commander, SF - E and a gathering of Officers and Other Ranks.

The SFHQ-E with the intention of supporting the country’s food security as per guidelines given by the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage inaugurated the paddy sowing several months back with the participation of troops, skilled in agrarian practices.

Meanwhile, troops at the Army Training School (ATS)-Maduruoya on Saturday (18) reaped their paddy harvest in one-acre extent of fields cultivated by them in the past 'Maha' season.

Performing traditional rites and rituals, the harvesting and conduct of the ‘Aluth Sahal Mangallaya’ was observed in the presence of Major General Senaka Kasthurimudali, Commandant, ATS.

At the same time, troops of 62 Infantry Division in Galkulama reaped their paddy harvest of 05 acres cultivated in the premises during a simple ceremony with the presence of Major General Janaka Ranasinghe, General Officer Commanding, 62 Infantry Division on Monday (Feb 20).

In the meanwhile, troops of the Sri Lanka Army General Service Corps (SLAGSC) reaped the paddy harvest from their 5-acre patch of paddy fields in the SLAGSC farm in Panaluwa on Friday (24) under the guidance of Major General Chanaka Meththananda, Colonel Commandant, SLAGSC

Major K.W.K.A.P Wanniarachchi, Commanding Officer, 1 SLAGSC was also present at the location.Senior Officers, Officers and Other Ranks were associated with above harvest-reaping projects.
