Islamic Religious Prayers Invoke Lord Allah's Blessings on Army Anniversary

The famous and most sacred Dawatagaha Jumma Masjid mosque and Shrine at Colombo Town Hall junction on Wednesday (3) evening, welcomed the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya when he, together with his senior officers, attended a special prayer session to receive blessings on the forthcoming 63rd Army Anniversary and Army Day (October 10).

The customary Islamic religious prayers, led by Maulavis, Rev Sayed Hassan, Rev Rauf and Rev Faizalkari commenced after the Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, Chief Guest at the praying ceremony, lit the mosque’s oil lamp and garlanded the holy place, Ziharath of Sheik Usman Valiyullah in keeping with Islamic traditions.

Maulavis during their prayers commended the Army for its invaluable services in peacetime and spoke high of its contribution towards nation building and development across the country. They also praised the Army Commander’s able guidance and leadership and the Army commitment towards promotion of reconciliation for long-lasting peace in the country.

The day’s arrangements have been prepared by members of the Army Islam Association.

Towards the end of the Islamic religious rites, the Commander of the Army, at the request of the mosque’s Managing Trustee, Mr Reyyaz M. Salley, signed the VIP book in the mosque and made a monetary contribution towards development and renovation of the mosque before the Commander’s exit.

Senior officers, Chairman, Army Muslim Association and a gathering of representative officers took part in the religious ceremony.

Wednesday’s religious ceremony was the third segment of the series of commemorative events that have been organized in connection with the 63rd Army Anniversary. Both Buddhist and Hindu religious observances took place respectively in Anuradhapura and Kotahena, earlier on Monday (Oct 1) and Tuesday (Oct 2).
