Islamic Jamiyyathul Ulama Executives Present Centenary Copy to Army Chief

Three senior executive members of the ‘All Ceylon Jamiyyathul Ulama' (ACJU) organization on Tuesday (21) had a cordial interaction with Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage, Commander of the Army at the Commander's office and appraised him of the mandate and role of the ACJU.

During the cordial meeting, they handed over a booklet they recently released, ‘Century of Service’ on account of the ACJU's centenary to the Army Chief and explained how the ACJU remains committed for promotion of ethnic harmony, co-existence and reconciliation. At the same time, they symbolized the ACJU's goodwill by presenting a Sinhala copy of the Holy Quran to the Commander of the Army.

At the end of the cordial interactions, the Commander of the Army reciprocated their gesture of goodwill by presenting special mementos to the visiting Mr. Ash Sheik Murshid Mulaffar, Mr. Ash Sheik Fazil Farook and Mr. Ash Sheik Salman, all three senior executive members of the ACJU.

The ACJU has been in existence since 1924 and was incorporated by Parliament Act No. 51 of 2000 of the Democratic Socialist Republic of Sri Lanka. The objectives of the ACJU are far-sighted, long-run, and designed to serve the Muslim Community and the nation. At present ACJU has 163 Branches in 24 districts and over 8000 scholars as subscribed members.
