IPKF Soldiers Killed during 'Operation Pawan' Remembered

A special ceremony was held on Tuesday (15) at Palaly, Jaffna to commemorate Indian Peace Keeping Force (IPKF) soldiers who laid their lives for the sake of territorial integrity of their friendly neighbouring country during the ‘Operation Pawan’ in 1987.

Consul General of India in Jaffna Mr. Shri A. Natarajan and Brigadier Admin and Quartering, Brigadier A. D Alawatta, Security Force Headquarters – Jaffna (SFHQ-J), placed wreaths at the monument, erected at Palaly in honour of fallen IPKF war heroes and honoured them.

The ‘Operation Pawan’ was conducted against the LTTE by 10 Para Commandos and a section of 13 Sikh Light Infantry. However, the IPKF soldiers were shot dead by the LTTE, midway their landing during a heliborne assault in the midnight of 12 October 1987.

Later, the Palaly IPKF monument was built in memory of those fallen War Heroes.
