Inter Regiment Volleyball Win Goes to Artillery


The Inter Regiment Volleyball Tournament saw its final tussle got underway on Tuesday (24) evening at the Sugathadasa Stadium.

Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army as the Chief Guest witnessed the final Super League encounter between Sri Lanka Artillery (SLA) and Sri Lanka Light Infantry (SLLI) players. All the Regiments in the Army took part in the tournament with enormous interest and dedication in the past two weeks at Panagoda and Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment Headquarters Indoor Stadium at Ambepussa.

Beating their rival, SLA team finally emerged victorious with the championship, amidst a thundering applause as the final few minutes turned critical for both teams.

Lieutenant General Daya Ratnayake, Commander of the Army extending best wishes to the players gave away trophies and certificates to the winners at the conclusion of the match.

The tournament and the final match were organized by the Army Volleyball Committee, chaired by Major General Boniface Perera. The final match was witnessed by Major General Crishantha de Silva, Chief of Staff and Chairman of Sri Lanka Army Sports, Major General Janaka Ratnayake, Director General of Army Sports, Major General Boniface Perera, Chairman, Sri Lanka Army Volleyball Committee, other senior officers, other ranks and a large gathering of volleyball fans.

Gajaba Regiment (GR) and Sri Lanka Engineers (SLE) competed in the ‘A’ Division for supremacy earlier before the final match kicked off as the highlight of the tournament.

GR team won the ‘A’ Division trophy after a close fight in the match against SLE.

The tournament organized under three divisions selected super league, out of 8 groups for the final tussle in that evening.
