Inter Regiment Volleyball Championship - 2022 Ends with New Records

The Inter Regiment Volleyball Championship - 2022 saw its final tussle on Monday (31) afternoon at the Panagoda Army Gymnasium.

Major General Jagath Kodithuwakku, Chief of Staff as the Chief Guest witnessed the finals of the Super League encounter between the Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment (SLSR) and Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps (SLAOC) players. 19 teams in the Army representing various Regiments took part in the tournament with enormous interest and dedication in the past two weeks at Panagoda.

Beating their rival, SLAOC team finally emerged victorious with the Super League championship, while SLSR and Sri Lanka Artillery trams emerged as second and third Runners-up respectively.

Major General Jagath Kodithuwakku extended best wishes to the players and gave away trophies and certificates to the winners at the conclusion of the match.

The Army Volleyball Committee, chaired by Major General Manjula Kariyawasam organized the tournament and the final match. The final match was witnessed by Major General Channa Weerasooriya, Deputy Chief of Staff, Major General Sujeewa Senarath Yapa, Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, other senior officers, other ranks and a large gathering of volleyball fans.

Players in the Sri Lanka Army Service Corps (SLASC) and the Sri Lanka National Guard (SLNG) competed in the ‘A’ Division for supremacy earlier before the final match kicked off as the highlight of the tournament.

Sri Lanka Army Service Corps team won the ‘A’ Division trophy while Sri Lanka National Guard team and Sri Lanka Signal Corps secured first and second runners-up slots in the tournament respectively.

The individual performance of the competitors are as follows;

Best Player - Lance Corporal Chelvam Selvam of Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps

Best Attacker - Lance Corporal I Madushan of Sri Lanka Sinha Regiment

Best Setter/Best Defender - Lance Corporal PS Dushantha of Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps

Best Blocker - Private DG Kumara of Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps

Best Service - Lance Corporal Chelvam Selvam of Sri Lanka Army Ordnance Corps
