The Inter Regiment Triathlon Championship tournament, adding a new page to the history of Army sports revived on Sunday (27) by the side of the Chandrika Tank bund as the 5th Inter Regiment Triathlon Championship tournament (male) with 78 competitors representing 14 Regiments.
Championship events consisted of 750 m swimming, 20-km bicycle riding and 5-km running. The Corps of Sri Lanka Engineers won the championship in the firs Inter Regiment Triathlon competition. Though it has a limited history of five years after the last toournament in 2016, the athletes who produced through this competition has won the bronze medal in South Asian Games, held in Kathmandu, Nepal in the year 2019, giving fame to the country.
The Chief Guest for the finals and the awarding ceremony was Major General Kuma Peiris, Additional Director - Defence Headquarters Complex Project. A large crowd was there to witness the tournament.
