Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Vikum Liyanage as the Chief Guest witnessed the finals of the Inter Regiment Netball Team Championship - 2022 held at the Panagoda Army Indoor Stadium on Thursday evening (30) The tournament got underway from 22 June 2022 to 30 June 2022 with the participants of seven teams.
At the main entrance, the Commander of the Army was welcomed by Brigadier C.S Thibbotuge, Chairman, Army Netball Committee and conducted to the pavilion before finalists were introduced to the Commander.
Sri Lanka Army Women's Corps A and B teams competed each other in the finals in an impressive manner, but the Sri Lanka Army Women’s Corps ‘A’ team players after a neck-to-neck encounter scored the victory to 21/15 qualifying to claim the Championship for the year.
At the end, the Commander of the Army and Mrs Janaki Liyanage, President, Army Seva Vanitha Unit joined in the award of trophies to the winners in all categories and the winning teams are as follows:
Championship - Sri Lanka Army Women's Corps ‘A’ Team
Runners-up - Sri Lanka Army Women's Corps ‘B’ Team
Second Runners-up - Sri Lanka Signal Corps Team
Major General Jagath Kodithuwakku, Chief of Staff, Major General Channa Weerasuriya, Deputy Chief of Staff, Major Geneal Sujeewa Senarath Yapa, Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, Major General Deepal Pussella, Commander, Security Forces - West, Senior Officers, Spouses of Senior Officers and Other Ranks witnessed the final match.
