Inter Regiment Netball Championship Finals Played at Panagoda

Chief of Defence Staff and Commander of the Army, Lieutenant General Shavendra Silva as the Chief Guest in the finals and the awarding ceremony of the Inter Regiment Netball Championship at Panagoda Army Indoor Stadium gave away trophies and certificates to the achievers on Friday (6).

The championship tournament was competed by 6 Netball teams, including 3 teams of the Sri Lanka Army Women's Corps (SLAWC), 1 team of the Sri Lanka Signal Corps (SLSC) and 1 team of the Sri Lanka Corps of Military Police (SLCMP). A guest team of the Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) also vied in the tournament.

The day’s Chief Guest was welcomed by Brigadier R. M. B. T Rathnayake, Chairman, Army Netball Committee and Centre Commandant, SLAWC before the day’s proceedings got to a start with singing of the Army song and observance of the two-minute silence for War Heroes before the brief welcome speech was delivered.

The finals were played between the SLAWC’s ‘A’ team and the SLAWC’s ‘B’ team amid cheers and applause. At the end, SLAWC’s ‘A’ carried away the Championship after a close tussle. The day’s Chief Guest extended congratulations and gave away the Championship trophy and other merit awards.

The vote of thanks was proposed before the day’s event came to an end.

Senior Officers including, Major General Jagath Gunawardena, Commandant, Sri Lanka Army Volunteer Force, Major General Jayantha Seneviratne, Commander, Security Forces - West, Major General Prasanna Chandrasekara, Master General Ordnance, Major General M.A.A.D Sirinaga, Quarter Master General were at the stadium to watch the finals.
