The awarding ceremony of the Inter-Regiment Combat Firing Competition - 2023 took place at the Sri Lanka Military Academy gymnasium on Wednesday (22 November), headed by Major General G.R.R.P Jayawardena RWP RSP ndu, Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army.
Major General M.G.W.W.W.M.C.B Wickramasinghe RWP RSP ndu psc, Director General General Staff, together with Major General W.W.H.R.R.V.M.N.D.K.B Niyangoda RWP RSP VSV USP ndu psc, Commander Security Forces - Central, Major General W.P Kariyawasam, Commandant at Marksmanship and Sniper Training School (MSTS) cordially welcomed the day’s Chief Guest, Major General G.R.R.P Jayawardena RWP RSP ndu on his arrival at the camp premises.
Afterwards, a video documentary showcased the highlights of the Inter-Regiment Combat Firing Competition-2023 that got underway at the MSTS firing range before the finals were conducted.
Next, Major General G.R.R.P Jayawardena RWP RSP ndu , Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army together with Major General M.G.W.W.W.M.C.B Wickramasinghe RWP RSP ndu psc , Director General General Staff together with Major General W.W.H.R.R.V.M.N.D.K.B Niyangoda RWP RSP VSV USP ndu psc, Major General W.P Kariyawasam , Commandant, MSTS awarded the trophies and certificates to the achievers in the tournament.
After a while, the Deputy Chief of Staff addressed both Officers and Other Ranks and commended them for their outstanding achievements.
At the end of the ceremony Major General W.P Kariyawasam, Commandant, MSTS presented a memento to the Major General G.R.R.P Jayawardena RWP RSP ndu , Deputy Chief of Staff of the Army as token of appreciation.
The Deputy Chief of Staff also had the opportunity to share a couple of views with Officers and Other Ranks who were present at the location before the day’s event ended.
The Inter-Regiment Combat Firing Competition-2023, organized by the Army Small Arms Association (ASAA), together with the MSTS was held from 7 November to 16 November at the firing range in Diyatalawa.
Representing the regiments, 35 Firing Teams (open and novices) participated in the Inter-Regiment Combat Firing Competition-2023.
