Commander of the Army Lieutenant General Jagath Jayasuriya, extending his support to Army Basketball players who had their final round of the Inter-Regiment Basketball Tournament at Panagoda Army Cantonment premises Friday (13) evening, was a witness to the final tussle.
The finals between Sri Lanka Military Police (SLCMP) and Sri Lanka Army Service Corps (SLASC) teams drew a large gathering of sports fans and supporters.
The tournament, competed by 21 regimental teams, was also comprised of a separate simultaneous tournament with the participation of seven Women’s Corps Units in the Army. 3 Women’s Corps basketball team had its encounter with the 2 Women’s Corps team as finalists vying for the championship.
Those tournaments, ably organized by the Army Basketball Committee under the Directorate of Sports are an annual event.
SLASC team carried the Trophy for the year 2011 while the 2 Women’s Corps team emerged champions in their tournament. Lieutenant General Jayasuriya awarded those trophies to winners.
