A combined sponsorship, made available to the Army at the request of the Security Force HQ-Wanni enabled 11 Gemunu Watch (GW) troops to coordinate and conduct a mammoth donation project of dry rations and school accessories for deserving families and school-goers in Weherathenna Grama Niladhari Division in Vavuniya on Wednesday (5 April 2023).
The project saw 180 families who were invited to the Weherathenna Sri Rathnasara temple given dry ration packs, each worth Rs 10,000/= and packs of school accessories, each valued at Rs 6,000/= on account of the Sinhala and Tamil New Year and the start of the new school term.
The entire sponsorship for this project was jointly supplied by Dr. Anju of Glorious Sun Company, Ven. Prof. Dhammajothi Thero and the Hong Kong Buddhist Association. It was well coordinated by Ven. Kelepuliyankulama Wanarathna Thero who was sensitive to the hardships of Weherathenna people in the Wanni.
General Officer Commanding, 62 Infantry Division Major General R A J N Ranasinghe RSP USP ndc attended the distribution ceremony as the Chief Guest, together with the Civil Affairs Officer, 62 Infantry Division, Officer Commanding of the 11 Gemunu Watch - ‘A’ Company and the Officer in Charge of the Bogaswewa Police station.
